Nett — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 19 April 2026 Last updated: 19 April 2026
Plain-English summary
Nett is a UK take-home pay calculator. It runs entirely on your device. The Nett app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal information. There are no Nett accounts, no Nett servers, no analytics, and no advertising trackers. Everything you enter — salary, tax code, pension, saved scenarios — stays in iOS storage on your iPhone or iPad until you delete it.
Two important caveats are described in detail below: (1) if you have iOS’s standard iCloud Backup enabled, Apple includes Nett’s local data in your encrypted device backup along with every other app’s data; and (2) when in-app purchases become available, the authoritative record of any purchase is held by Apple against your Apple ID, not by us.
If that’s all you wanted to know, you’re done. The detail below exists to satisfy App Store and UK GDPR requirements.
1. Who we are
This app (“Nett”, “the app”) is published as an independent iOS app on the Apple App Store. References to “we”, “us”, or “our” in this policy refer to the app’s publisher.

2. Information we collect
The Nett app does not collect personal information from you and does not transmit data off your device.
The app stores the following categories of information locally on your device only, using iOS’s standard UserDefaults storage. None of it is sent to us:
- Salary and compensation inputs — annual salary, bonus, commission, car allowance, employee share scheme contributions, pension contributions, benefits in kind.
- Tax profile — UK nation (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), tax code, student loan plan, selected tax year, age range derived from a birth year you choose to enter.
- Saved scenarios — job offers, commission plans, deal tracker entries, and any “What If” comparisons you create.
- App preferences — onboarding completion flag, light/dark/system appearance, Simple/Advanced mode preference, whether you have visited certain tabs.
- Trial state — if you start the in-app free trial, the start date is stored locally so the app can determine whether your trial is active.
- Purchase entitlement (future) — if and when in-app purchases become available (see Section 6), the authoritative record of any purchase is held by Apple against your Apple ID, not by us. The app may cache a yes/no entitlement flag locally so that Pro features remain available when your device is offline. This cached flag contains no payment details, no identifiers, and no Apple ID information.
This information is held on your device and is accessible only to the Nett app. iOS automatically encrypts app storage when your device is locked with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
3. How we use information
The information you enter is used solely to calculate and display your estimated take-home pay and related figures, and to remember your preferences between sessions. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else by the Nett app.
4. Information we share
The Nett app does not share information with anyone, because the app does not transmit any data off your device.
We have no servers that could receive your information. We do not sell, rent, or disclose your data. We have no business partners with whom data could be shared.
If you use the Share Summary action inside the app, iOS presents its system share sheet and you choose where to send the summary text (for example, Messages, Mail, or Notes). The destination is entirely your choice. Nett does not see, log, intercept, or transmit anything you share — the iOS share sheet hands the text directly to the destination app or service you select.
5. Permissions and device access
Nett requests no special device permissions. It does not access your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos, calendar, health data, or any other system-protected resource. It does not request permission to track you across apps or websites (App Tracking Transparency).
6. Third-party services
Nett does not currently integrate any third-party services. The app does not include:
- analytics or product-usage measurement SDKs;
- crash- or error-reporting SDKs;
- advertising or attribution SDKs;
- social-login or third-party authentication providers;
- push-notification providers;
- cloud-sync, real-time database, or backend-as-a-service providers.
Future versions may introduce the following Apple-provided service. If they do, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the App Store privacy nutrition label will be updated accordingly:
- Apple StoreKit (in-app purchases / subscriptions) — to enable an optional Pro subscription. Apple processes the purchase. The authoritative record of any entitlement is held by Apple against your Apple ID; we receive only an anonymous, signed receipt from Apple confirming yes/no entitlement. We do not see your name, email, payment method, billing address, or Apple ID. To restore purchases on a new device, the app asks Apple’s servers via StoreKit; Apple confirms or denies entitlement directly. This is also why losing your device does not lose your subscription — your entitlement lives with your Apple ID, and signing in to your Apple ID on a new device and tapping “Restore Purchases” reinstates it. Apple’s handling of payment information is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
If a future version adds anonymous, aggregate crash reporting, this policy will be amended at that time to name the specific service and to confirm that the data collected does not identify you.
7. Device backups (iCloud and computer)
The Nett app itself does not offer or use any iCloud sync, iCloud Drive export, or any other cross-device sync feature. Each device’s data is independent.
However, you should be aware of an iOS-level behaviour that applies to almost every iPhone and iPad app, including Nett:
- If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS (Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup), Apple periodically backs up the contents of your device — including the local data of installed apps — to your iCloud account. This backup is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and only you, signed in to your Apple ID, can restore from it.
- If you back up your device to a Mac or PC using Finder or iTunes, app data is included in that backup in the same way.
These backups are a feature of iOS and Apple’s services, not of Nett. We do not implement, configure, schedule, or have any access to them. Apple’s handling of iCloud Backup is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
You can exclude Nett specifically from iCloud Backup in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Backups → [this device] → toggle Nett off. You can also disable iCloud Backup entirely from the same area.
8. Children
Nett is intended for users aged 16 and over. The onboarding flow validates that the birth year you enter places you at least 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 16. Because we do not collect any personal information at all, this restriction is operational rather than data-based.
9. Data retention and deletion
Information you enter remains on your device until you delete it. You can delete it in two ways:
- Inside the app: open Settings → “Reset & Start Over” to clear all stored profile data, scenarios, and preferences.
- From iOS: delete the Nett app. iOS removes all of the app’s local storage when the app is uninstalled.
Because we hold no personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no server-side records to purge. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, deleting the app from your device does not immediately delete it from older device backups held by Apple; those backups age out according to Apple’s retention rules and your iCloud settings, which you control directly with Apple.
10. Your rights under UK GDPR
The UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 give you rights over personal data held about you, including the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Because the Nett app does not collect or hold any personal data about you on our side, we have no records to which these rights could apply. You exercise the practical equivalents of these rights yourself, on your own device, by editing or deleting your inputs at any time.
If you believe we are nonetheless processing personal data about you, please contact us at the address in Section 1. You may also lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk.
11. International users
Because the Nett app does not transmit data from your device, no international data transfers are made by us, and no jurisdictional rules about cross-border data flows are engaged on our side. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, Apple may store your encrypted backup in data centres outside the UK; that processing is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
12. Security
Your data is protected by the security of your iOS device. We strongly recommend that you set a device passcode and enable Face ID or Touch ID, so that iOS encrypts app storage when the device is locked. If you use iCloud Backup, we recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your Apple ID.
13. Disclaimers
Nett is a calculation tool. The figures it produces are estimates based on UK tax rules as published by HMRC for the selected tax year. They are illustrative only and do not constitute financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. You should consult a qualified professional before making decisions based on the figures shown.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app’s behaviour changes (for example, when in-app purchases are introduced). When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app on next launch. The change history is publicly visible in the app’s source repository.
